Swanage - The victorian seaside resort

Swanage is a beautiful place to visit. The seafront itself is beautiful with a sandy beach and easy access to the town for gifts.

Ice creams and fish and chips are right behind you if you fancy as well as a small arcade and fun fair. All allowing for a great day out with plenty to do without travelling around.

You can hire out deck chairs and peddle boats right on the beach as well as Punch and Judy to keep your kids entertained. There are lots of lovely bars and restaurants and fish n chips bar to get food and drink , crabbing and plenty of shops to walk around. Parking is plentiful either in town on the hill or out of town a short walk to the front

Walk along the front and up the hill and you can walk for miles along the Jurassic coast and enjoy the beautiful views.

Getting to Swanage is simple , you can either travel completely by road or to cut down on the journey and add a little adventure , you can catch the Swanage Ferry from Sandbanks. This will cut approximately 10 miles off of your journey and take you through the beautiful Studland Bay and past Corfe castle

Corfe Castle

The Idyllic Corfe village is beautiful and completely in keeping with its history with lovely pubs and gift shops and also a small museum.

The backdrop to this lovely location is the intimidating Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle was built shortly after the Norman conquest of 1066. Since then, it has seen its fair share of battles, murders, and miracles, and has been home to kings, knights, and a princess.

Corfe Castle is run by the National Trust and is therefore free to members with a small charge for entry. There you can find out who lived in luxurious surroundings, who became imprisoned until death, and how the castle was built and ultimately destroyed.

Studland and the swanage ferry

The drive from, Oakdene to Swanage is over 20 miles. It is a beautiful journey which takes you through some lovely villages and stunning views.

The journey however can be significantly reduced by using the famous “Swanage Ferry” This is a car ferry that travels between Sandbanks and Studland. From Studland, it is a short journey through Corfe Castle and through to Swanage.

The ferry runs constantly throughout the day and the cost of a one-way ticket is approximately £5.

We like to do both. We will use the ferry on the wat to Swanage for the experience and then come home via the roads to catch the views and perhaps one of the lovely pubs on the way home
